The Irwin-Asher "Wolf 2.0" guitars were limited to only 10 masterfully built instruments, which will be among the finest renditions of this iconic guitar created by Doug Irwin and played by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. Starting in 2021 Bill Asher worked directly with Doug at his shop to learn about the design, techniques and materials to prepare to build these iconic guitars once again. Using Irwin's original templates, notes and drawings.

Asher would handcraft the first authorised Irwin Wolf guitar in 2021. This Prototype "Wolf 2.0" was also crafted from Irwin's private 25-year-old stash of figured maple. The Irwin-Asher prototype was completed by Asher in 2022 which quickly caught the attention of John Mayer. Mayer reached out to Doug so he could meet to demo this recreation of Jerry's Wolf, which was loaned to Mayer for the 2019 Dead and Co tour. So if anyone would know John would. He only needed to spend a short time playing this Wolf through an old Fender Princeton and effects loop pedal board when he knew he had to have this one! The feel was flawless, the sustain and tone spoke of classic Jerry. John would debute his very own “Wolf” with Dead and Company – The Final Tour, at Playing in the Sand event in Mexico on January 14, 2023. Mayer says that Asher’s recreation of Irwin’s iconic build is “unbelievable…I can confidently say Doug and Bill nailed it.”Wolf 2.0 will embody all the classic tones, contours, and details of Jerry's original, combined with Asher's unique artistry and craftsmanship. Limited to only 10 builds, which sold out in a matter of days, each will be accompanied by a signed Certificate Of Authenticity, as well as a hard-cover pictorial book of the Irwin-Asher journey.

Irwin and Asher are already collaborating on the '78 Wolf Triple Cream era to be available limited to only 10 per year. 

Finally, Asher Guitars is proud to be a part of the Irwin Certified build team along with Leo Elliott of Scarlet Fire Guitars. Both have been chosen by Master luthier Doug Irwin to cary on the craft and legacy of these inspiring musical instruments.
